This page is a (probably not up-to-date) showcase of Super Mario World hacks I've made or contributed to.
Solo Projects
-
HYPERION
This was my first ever venture into SMW hacking. Which aimed to be a fun experience for novice Kaizo players and not be too difficult. Originally released in 2020, I made an update in 2022 to polish it up and fix my newbie hacker errors. -
Shallow Pits
This is a single-screen challenge hack I made over the course of a few weeks which took a lot of inspiration from Tool-Assisted and Pit hacks, hence the name, and uses a glitch tech, really tight (and rude) setups and some item abuse. -
Shallow Pits 2
A friendlier sequel. The sprinkling of glitch or kuso tech rooms was really the most interesting part of the first one so I leaned into it for the second. Took lots of inspiration from the hacks of MST and abc_ore, among others.
Single Levels
-
HAZMAT
Romhack RacesThis was the first race level I made for Romhack Races, it features an improved implementation of a radiation gimmick dtothefourth made for me that I use in a level from HYPERION. -
Brutalism or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Cement
Kaizo Level Design ContestAn ode to cement block aesthetics. In the level, you find a helper cement block that can be carried and thrown and stuck to walls to help get you through to the end. -
Ebb and Flow
Old-School Level Design ContestA level I made in an afternoon. I wanted to make using the Switch Palace tileset since it's very limiting and as I assumed (rightly) it would be overlooked in the contest it's so barebones. -
Tempest Memories
Romhack RacesThe title (and a concept later in the level) is a nod to the standard hack Memorial Service Tempest from MST in the Japanese community. -
A Paw in my Face
Romhack RacesA harder Kaizo that focused on trick execution over gimmicks or chocolate. Made as an homage to Casio Mario World and other levels by Wyatt. -
HORSE
Romhack RacesA Kaizo level with a silly tone using some cheeky code where you play as Yoshi. -
Save It For Later
Kaizo Level Design ContestThe gimmick in this Kaizo level involves using L/R to steal Mario's power to the item box for use later. -
Racing Like It's 2013
Romhack RacesAn old-school style level that tried to emulate the style of Kaizo you'd find in the early 2010s, as an antidote to the modern style of many race levels. -
The Illusion of Choice
Romhack RacesThis level uses the BLDC2 baserom with the dynamic spritesheet system to implement the idea of having a surprise sprite in a pot that will help you complete obstacles. -
Starstruck
Chocolate Level Design Contest Collaborator: AlexWhen Mario has P-Speed he gets Star Power and we use some custom blocks that can be broken while he's invincible, so the level is designed around keeping P-Speed and working with those blocks. -
SEPARATION ANXIETY
Kaizo Level Design Contest Collaborator: underwayIn this one Mario can't be outside of a sprite's hitbox for too long lest he die. -
Low Rider
Kuso Level Design ContestThis level is built around a glitched Yoshi state you can end up in when you beat a boss in the level slot for Sunken Ghost Ship in vanilla. -
A SWITCH PALUSSY
Old-School Level Design ContestSomething I made in a couple hours the day before submissions closed. Just an autoscroller, kind of challenging. -
Learn To Let Go
Romhack RacesThe gimmick of this one is Mario has autorun enabled which means if you hold run Mario now slows down—the functionality of the X and Y buttons are inverted. -
autospeleothem
Automatic Level Design ContestThis one wasn't too planned I was just having fun making a "Mario moving machine" with intricate movements. -
10000 angels sing...
Vanilla Level Design Contest Collaborator: idolA sensual level that exploited the gap in end level timers of Switch Palace Switch objects to do some level-changing shenanigans with Map16 tricks. -
Effort World Kaizo Edition
Romhack RacesA level I made very quickly (~2 hours) to fill in during a week there was a drop out. I decided to apply the philosophy of Effortworld to a race level. -
Race The Gauntlet
Romhack RacesThis one is very hard. It's a gauntlet level inspired by Run The Gauntlet by MiracleWater. I made it to make the point that non-Kaizo levels can provide an equal or greater challenge than Kaizo. -
FAST SWITCH PALACE
72 Hour Kaizo Level Design ContestThe theme of the event was to imagine a "fifth Switch Palace" and I had the code for a sprite version of the switch, so I thought it would be funny to put it on a line-guide and have it zip around. -
Cement Corner Pixel
Romhack RacesAnother silly level idea that I wanted to see in a race context; it's built without any obstacles or danger that will kill you while still being about platforming.
Collab Work
-
Transmission Chain Experiment
This was a spontaneous collab I organized during SMWC's Winter C3 2022. Each contributor was only allowed to edit a single screen and pass it forward. The results were pretty cursed (and borderline unplayable) but it was interesting. -
Effortworld
A low-effort JUMP Team collaboration hack made over 6 days during SMW Central's Summer C3 2023 in 1 hour speed-design sessions. -
Nonsense
A large collaboration hack led by MiracleWater and GbreezeSunset that I contributed several levels to, and some ports. -
Naughtyworld
A special JUMP Team Christmas-themed hack, as we did for "Effortworld" the majority of the levels in this hack were made in short design sessions. -
ooooo
That one JUMP collab with all the beans. I contributed several levels and to the overworld and other resources. -
One Day The Sadness Will End
A collaboration hack that was a compilation of the levels made during the JUMP Team's 2024 Secret Santa. I made a level for Daizo Dee Von -
Super Plinko World
Another spontaneous C3 collab hack I organized where every contributor made short, automatic Plinko stages for a custom flopping fish.
